The head of the UK's Digital TV Group predicts that "two or three" Freeview HD receivers will be on sale by the end of this year.

Speaking to Digital Spy, DTG director general Richard Lindsey-Davies said: "We anticipate seeing two or three [Freeview HD] receivers in the market at the end of this year."

However, he did add the caveat that "this is an engineering project so we have to believe that when we see it. But everything is looking good for the product to go into the market by the end of 2009".

On March 6th, the DTG published its technical spec for manufacturers to produce set-top boxes for the forthcoming Freeview HD broadcasts, due to start on December 2nd

Panasonic has already confirmed that it will support Freeview HD with new products coming to market next year.

So does this mean the Freeview tuner in my year-old Pana plasma won't be able to receive the HD content?

Can`t wait, Hopefully tv`s with built in HD Freeview will be available soon - the all-in-one solution.

Yes, the four main terrestrial broadcasters all have guaranteed slots for Freeview HD transmissions, so there should be a reasonablle amount of content at launch.

BBC, ITV, C4 & C5 are alluded to in the article link above, doesn't sound like a bad start.

i dont think much content will be available in hd on these
