We spotted this new CD/DAC combo in the Cyrus room at the Manchester Show last weekend, and have managed to extract a few details from the company's boss.

It's called the Cyrus CD Xt SE DAC X '+' and the transport is fitted with an additional dual-transformer power supply, better re-clocking module and a a reworked circuitboard.

There's also a minor cosmetic tweak to the fascia, which has a new bezel made from a highly polished acrylic. The new slot-loading shape is designed to make disc loading easier, claims Cyrus.

The DAC has been retuned to work better with the new CD transport, and uses new capacitors.

The improvements have led to a major price hike over the existing CD Xt SE/DAC X, which costs £2250 for the pair. The new combo will set you back £3000 (£1500 each).

Dealers won't have stock of the '+' model until late November, but we hope to get our review sample in the next 2-3 weeks.

If you don't want to pay £3k for the new model, there's still stock of the existing CD Xt SE/DAC X – which has just won a Best Buy in our 2009 Awards – available at Cyrus dealers.

The re-design of the disc slot bezel looks to be FAR superior to the original design, which was simply dreadful and caused many problems. This re-design is WAY over due, though to Cyrus' credit, they write on their website;

"The new shape is designed to make disk loading easier. Features like the concave lower section protect the disc playing surface as it passes through the bezel. Also, in retrospect, we preferred this slimmer profile that (we think) looks much nicer."

looking forward to the review.  wonder if this means the dacx+ will work better with my mac mini then the old one.Wink
