BBC iPlayer HD now on Virgin Media

The BBC and Virgin Media have today announced the launch of high-definition programmes on the BBC iPlayer on Virgin Media's V+ cable TV service.

Virgin Media TV customers can now watch a range of BBC HD programmes, including Robin Hood, Friday Night With Jonathan Ross and Later...With Jool Holland, on demand via the iPlayer.

Upcoming HD highlights will include the two remaining Doctor Who specials and the new series of Dragons' Den.

Katharine Burns Rivington, executive director of content acquisition at Virgin Media, says: "BBC iPlayer has been a huge success on our TV platform and we're thrilled to be expanding the service with HD content.

"We're looking forward to increasing our line-up of broadcast HD channels over the next few months and combining the best of HD and on-demand TV."

Last month Virgin announced that series 3 of Dexter would be available in high-definition on the company's TV Choice on-demand service, and a selection of HD content from ITV Player is available on Catch Up TV.

The only reason I am with sky is for the HD content - especially sports HD. If Virgin can get their hands on that I would move in a flash. I suspect Sky know this though...

Well, at least there's some non-BBC HD content coming through at last. Discovered The Sopranos in HD last night too.

When will it be upgraded on the PS3???

Whoohoo!  Virgin value just keeps getting better.  First 2MB to 10MB internet and now HD on demand.

Now, if they could finally get around to increasing the linear HD content to more than 1 channel...
