Avatar Blu-ray and DVD set for release on April 26

Twentieth Century Fox has today confirmed it will release Avatar on Blu-ray and DVD in the UK on April 26th.
James Cameron's ground-breaking epic is the highest grossing film of all time, with global takings of $2.6bn at the box office, and £89.4m in the UK alone.
The film recently won three Oscars for art direction, cinematography and visual effects.
A limited edition Blu-ray of the film, containing four lenticular art cards and a 'survival guide' book, will be released exclusively in the UK and will be available for pre-order online only from today.
Amazon is taking pre-orders for the limited edition Blu-ray disc for £24.99, or the DVD at £9.99. Alternatively, Play.com will sell you the standard Blu-ray for £14.99.
"Recognised for its optimum picture and sound, Avatar's masterful cinematography, art direction and visual effects lends itself to awe-inspiring clarity when viewed on Blu-ray disc," says Twentieth Century Fox.
The studio has yet to announce a release date for the 3D version of the film on Blu-ray.

Actually, Amazon also has the standard Blu-ray for 14.99. I don't know if this was done on purpose (to push sales of the limited edition Blu-ray), but if you do a search for 'Avatar' under DVD (with the sorting filter set to 'relevance') the first result you get is for the DVD, then you get the limited edition Blu-ray at #3. The standard Blu-ray is search result #23. Despite all the hate people have been throwing at this bare bones release, I can't hide the feeling that this is one of the most exciting releases to come in a long time (obviously we won't know until the actual product has been tested, but it is safe to assume this one will be demo material, especially since the producers have publicly stated they want to allocate as much disk space as possible to picture and sound). April is shaping up to be quite the month for Blu-ray: Lord of the Rings on the 6th, Saving Private Ryan and Avatar on the 26th.
Play also sell the limited edition Steelbook Combi (blu-ray, glow in the dark tshirt, 4 art cards and book) for £24.99 at

or they do a package of the above Steelbook version together with Sony BDP-S360 blu ray player for £119.99 at

Is it really good film or is all the hype the 3D effects?? Hav'nt seen it myself just wondering to watch it at the cinema or wait for the blue ray release!
Avatar is not a film that appeals to me but you have to give James Cameron credit. Before Avatar was released many people questioned how popular it would prove and some movie critics lining up to slate it openly. But after box office takings which smashed his own Titanic record James Cameron is having the last laugh.
I certainly wouldn't bet against DVDs, Blu-Rays and later on 3-D proving a similar success.
No-one's forcing you to buy it. Personally, one viewing was more than enough...
Lets milk this OK film!!!
Barebones edition for now
Ultimate edition in November
3D(maybe) if it takes off!!
Worse then Peter Jackson with Lord of Rings!!!
