AKG wins Grammy Technical Award

Best-known to hi-fi enthusiasts as a headphone manufacturer, AKG has just received a Grammy Technical Award for over 60 years' contribution to the music recording industry.

The Award, presented during Grammy Week in Los Angeles, recognises the company's role in supplying microphones and headphones since it was founded in 1947 in Vienna, where it's still based.

Its products were used at the famous Beatles concert at Shea Stadium in 1967, and have been used by artists from Aerosmith, the Rolling Stones and Sinatra to Jay Z, Missy Elliot and Kanye West.

The only other Grammy Technical Award this year was given posthumously to Thomas Edison, inventor of the phonograph, the incandescent light bulb and early movie technologies. The award comes almost 80 years after Edison's death in 1931.
